Kindergarten Homestretch!

We are really in the homestretch now.

Despite all of the special events, the kids are working very hard on their Writing Stamina and their Reading Stamina.  We are also finishing up our math unit on teen numbers.  Please check out the list of upcoming events and let me know if you have any questions.

May 25:  Walking Field Trip to Maze Library 9:30 (Thursday)  We will not be checking out books.  Kids who sent in an application last week will receive their library card.  If we got it later than last Wednesday, the cards will be available for you to pick up on Friday.
May 26:  Olympic Day:  Kids need to wear PE clothes and shoes.  They will be active all morning and we will have reading, math and Lexia in the afternoon.
May 26:  Due date for student library books- If our class is one of the first to return books we get a bonus recess from Ms. Noonan!  Return those books!
May 29:  No School
May 31:  Pizza and Play at Rehm Park with all Kindergarten Classes-Please stop by for a little bit of this party or all of it.  It's a relaxed picnic in the park with all the classes.  Here is a sign up for helping.  If the slots are full, you can still donate or join in helping.  Those are just our minimum numbers.

June 1: 10:45-11:10 public library presentation in gym
June 7:  Last day of School-Please stay tuned for our last day schedule- I usually try to do a short little "film fest" in the classroom for parents and kids.  I'm hoping this year we will be able to do it again.  If it happens, it will be about 30-45 minutes before the 2:00 dismissal.

May!

It's the time of year where we just need to review what is happening each day...
Monday: Extra recess and Eagle Slips!
Tuesday:  A trip to a First Grade Classroom!
Wednesday: Game Day!  Kids can bring in games they are willing to share.  Please do not send in games that require elaborate set up. Your child should be able to explain the rules.
Thursday: Hat Day!
Friday: Irving Day!  Wear Irving Gear or Irving Colors.
May 8-12:  KRT will be given at Irving for Incoming Kindergarten Students.  The district has asked all Kindergarten teachers to administer this assessment in the afternoon.  We will be at Irving, but not in the classroom.

Library Dates:
  • Last whole class book check outs:  Monday, May 15th-Monday, May 19th (Classes will still have library after that, just no book check out.)
  • Due date for student books: Friday, May 26th.
May 18th Art Fest!  Please consider coming to Irving this evening and look at all the art in the halls, dance in the gym, play some Spanish games, and listen to some poets.  Poetry Slam is open to all students and the 4th and 5th grade Chorus will be performing some great songs and an original song written by an Irving student.

June 7:  Last day of School- Please note I had this date wrong for the whole month!  Last day of school is JUNE 7!

Reading Stamina is a focus in the last part of Kindergarten.  Sometimes reading to a bear is helpful!

Reading and sorting words that look and sound alike is a skill that helps with reading and writing.
