Reading:
This week we learned how to "lasso" word parts when reading words.  It helps us to chunk longer words into little parts.  Word Wonder is a reading super hero that is really good at looking for small chunks to read!
We read about Barack Obama, Ruby Bridges, and Rosa Parks.
Writing:
We did some work this week in our How To books but we also worked on writing friendly cards and letters.
Math: We continue to work on teen numbers. We are also looking at addition sentences with missing addends.
Science: This week we read a book about bridges and learned that different designs make bridges stronger.
Social Studies: 5 of our very own students read a poem about Rosa Parks in honor of Black History Month on the announcements Tuesday morning!  Way to go!

We also enjoyed a performance by the Lou Hall Dance group.  They taught us about the evolution of African Dance into dances we do today.  It was awesome!

We also spent some time reviewing our rules.  It's the time of the year when students are comfortable at school and are starting to test boundaries.  Please keep talking about how to be respectful, responsible, and safe at school.

Valentines Day was so much fun!  We loved looking at all the 100 hearts and enjoyed walking around and giving the hearts some compliments.

I'm so far behind on all the fun we have had lately! There  are pictures of 100s day, pajama day, and our speedy snap word work!

Reading:  We are working on finding little words in big words right now.  As you read at home, look for words like "win" that have the little word "in" or "ham" that has the little word "am."

Writing:  Our How To books have been awesome.  We learned how to add tips and warnings to our books to make them even better!

Math:  It's all about number bonds and teen numbers these days.  Practice writing numbers to 20 and counting to 100 by 10s.

Science:  We learned about how different bridge structures hold more weight.

Social Studies:  We have learned about Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges.  These brave women are great role models for us.  They solved their problems peacefully and with bravery.
